My name is Mariana Onofri. I am 26 years old and I am a Conservator-Restorer of Cultural Heritage based in Minas Gerais — Brazil. For those who have never heard of this field, sit down and get ready for a story: since I was a child, I loved visiting museums, exhibitions, and studying about art. As time went by, I became completely immersed in this world. I had an increasing desire to work in this field but had no idea how to start. A major difficulty was choosing a profession that not only resonated with me but also allowed me to have contact with art. By chance, destiny, or simply pure luck, I had an unexpected conversation that introduced me to the field of Conservation and Restoration. I can say that the feeling of reconnecting with what brings out the best in me and what I love most in the world was incredible! I graduated with a focus on conservation and restoration of paintings and sculptures, faced the challenge of working in one of the main cultural areas of the country in this field that I am passionate about and I’m currently enrolled with my Master’s Degree at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), one of the greatest universities in Brazil. Meu nome é Mariana Onofri. Tenho 26 anos e sou Conservadora-Restauradora de Bens Culturais. Para quem nunca ouviu falar sobre essa área, senta que lá vem história: desde pequena gostava muito de visitar museus, exposições e estudar sobre arte. Com o passar do tempo, acabei totalmente imersa nesse mundo. Tinha cada vez mais vontade de trabalhar com isso mas não tinha ideia de como começar e, uma grande dificuldade foi escolher uma profissão buscando não somente me identificar como também ter contato com arte. Por acaso, destino ou simplesmente pura sorte, tive um bate-papo inesperado que me fez conhecer a área da Conservação e Restauração. Posso dizer que foi incrível a sensação de reencontro com o que une a melhor parte de mim e do que mais amo no mundo! Me formei com enfoque em conservação-restauração de pinturas e esculturas e atualmente executo a minha pesquisa de Mestrado em Artes com ênfase em Preservação do Patrimônio Cultural na Univesidade Federal de Minas Gerais.
